About SA-UK USDP
The British Council, with funding support from the Newton Fund has partnered with the Department to implement the second phase of the University Staff Doctoral Programme. One hundred and forty South African academics are targeted for support to complete doctoral degrees through collaborative projects involving universities in South Africa and the United Kingdom. 6.4 A partnership has been established with the Newton Fund to provide mobility opportunities for nGAP lecturers in the United Kingdom, on a 50-50 cost-sharing basis. The Newton Fund allocates an amount to each successful nGAP lecturer applicant, and this is complemented by a matched DHET funding to enable a 2 – 3 month mobility opportunity at a university in the UK.
About THENSA
SATN was established in 2006 by five South African Universities of Technology (UoTs), namely, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Durban University of Technology (DUT), Central University of Technology (CUT), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), which resulted in the registration of the SATN trust in August 2008. The SATN became the collective voice of UoTs to provide a common platform for discussion on matters pertaining to higher education and to share leverage existing competencies of the member intuitions.
About HELTASA
The Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) is a professional association for educators and other significant role-players in the tertiary sector. Its membership is drawn mainly from staff in higher education institutions, but it seeks to work collaboratively with policy-makers, statutory bodies and other professional associations with an interest in higher education.
At the institutional level, within and across institutions, HELTASA seeks to promote networking between staff in central units responsible for enhancing educational quality and faculty-based academic staff with a scholarly interest in teaching and learning. It seeks to extend this networking through linking up with and promoting the establishment of professionals networks. HELTASA’s main forum is an annual conference, but it also has special interest groups (link) that provide further opportunities for constructive engagement and collaboration.
Its key objectives and activities are focused on:
• Creating, supporting and sustaining special interest groups on institutional, staff, student, curriculum and technological development.
• Interacting with the Department of Education, Council on Higher Education and other relevant bodies on HE matters.
• Promoting peer review as a means of enabling quality in HE practices.
• Organising and running an annual conference to promote the scholarship of teaching in HE.

The United States - South Africa Higher Education Network is a coalition of universities, foundations and government agencies dedicated to building a brighter future by strengthening ties among our institutions of higher education.
